I’m going to release rough versions of our demos and kind of explain each song’s history and how they came about. hopefully giving you (reader) a deeper understanding of each song and the day to day struggle it was to find inspiration and turn what was a piece of musical improvisation into a final done song piece.
Currently we’re working on recording these finished songs on our own in the best way possible, so look for an official release for purchase soon of higher quality and more thought out versions of each song to come. Until then, enjoy what we have, get a feel for what we’re doing, and send us some encouragement (money) to get this thing done once and for all.

This song is the first we had written for this new dark, loud project that was to become shut up. This song was written around the bass riff that was made up on an improv in may-june 2010 at our original small box space at soundspace on kinzie. Then after we moved into the new space this song was one of the first to be finished up and recorded. This recording has a bunch of guitar noise / noise keys overdubs by Jeremy Keller. It also has the rest of the regular lineup at the time of Anthony Lauricella on guitar and Stephen VanDeveer on drums.
I wrote the words to this song out of watching a stephen hawking special on black holes. I realized how fucking scary one just one of those things can be. the massive vortex of gravity is an interesting subject for sure, and definitely something worth screaming in fear about. This song is kind of those last moments when you are getting sucked into a black hole and the frantic feeling that would evoke. Black holes are cool.
hey, im going to use this space to tell the story of my band, SHUT UP. I want to tell about our major events, trials and tribulations, happy times and not so happy ones. whats up with us as we try to get these songs off the ground. hope its an enjoyable ride.
